Did you know?

  • Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer in early 2022 as a harder, multi-board alternative to Wordle.
  • It was acquired by Merriam-Webster in 2023, bringing dictionary pedigree to the popular clone.
  • SolveWordGames' Guess the Word includes a free 4-board Quordle-style practice mode with no daily limits.

The Two-Word Opener

While a single starting word works well for standard Wordle, Quordle players often prefer a two-word or three-word opener to quickly map the vowels and high-frequency consonants across all four boards. Because you have 9 guesses total, spending 2-3 guesses just to gather intel is highly profitable.

A
U
D
I
O

Clears out four vowels immediately. Follow up with STERN or RENTS to cover the common consonants.

S
T
E
R
N

Combines with AUDIO to knock out all primary vowels and the top 5 most common consonants in just two turns.

Which Board to Solve First?

A common mistake is getting tunnel vision on Board 1. The optimal Quordle strategy involves dynamically choosing which board to solve based on certainty.

  • Solve the lock first: If one board has 4 greens and a known 5th letter, solve it immediately to stop wasting brain cycles on it.
  • Hunt for dual-purpose guesses: If Board 2 needs an 'R' and Board 4 needs a 'T', find a guess that includes both to test the waters efficiently.
  • Avoid early traps: If Board 3 reveals _IGHT, don't guess FIGHT, MIGHT, LIGHT sequentially. That will burn 3 of your precious 9 guesses. Pivot to another board and try to weave F, M, and L into your guesses there.
